In 1988, Ann Powell was faced with the challenge of balancing the demands of new motherhood with the responsibilities of a career. She teamed with her mother Rachael Dickerson to create a venture that would allow Ann to spend more time with her family.
Ann had received a gift basket when her son Taylor was born. Rachael, who had owned a home-based floral business, felt that she could utilize her design talent and experience in conjunction with Ann’s sales and business skills. The combination proved to be a winner!

Taylor Made for You, named for then-six-month-old Taylor Powell, began in an upstairs bedroom of Rachael’s home. Orders for baskets came in from friends and family via word-of-mouth referrals. A large corporate order during their first holiday season was a confirmation for Ann and Rachael that they were on the right track.

Almost eighteen years and six moves later, Taylor Made for You now occupies 10,000-square-feet of showroom and warehouse space and employs 12 people. The shop carries over 2,000 items, including gourmet foods, made-in-Virginia products, and specialty gift items. While most orders come via phone, fax, website and e-mail, many customers enjoy browsing the spacious showroom and selecting items for their custom gifts.

Ann has been a repeat instructor at Jubilee!, the nation’s largest gift basket convention, and has taught many classes, from design basics to pricing strategies.
